Missouri Right to Life For Immediate Release: April 22, 2008 MISSOURI HOUSE VOTES TO EXPAND WOMEN’S Missouri Right to Life applauds the vote in the House yesterday expanding the informed consent laws. HB1831 requires that a woman be offered an ultrasound image of her unborn child, be informed that an abortion could be painful for her child, and be protected from coercion. “This legislation will save the lives of unborn children and protect their mothers,” said Pam Fichter, President of Missouri Right to Life. “We commend the Missouri House of Representative members that voted for this important pro-life bill,” she said. Fichter continued, “Many women considering an abortion will choose life for their unborn children because of the information they receive on fetal pain or because they can see the ultrasound image of their babies’ heartbeat. Countless women will be protected from the outrage of coerced abortion." A woman’s choice to abort her child should not be made without full and complete consent. HB 1831 will assure that women receive vital information and that their choice will be made without coercion. Missouri Right to Life urges the Senate to take all necessary steps to pass this legislation.
