Missouri 8th Congressional District Election: Tuesday, June 4
Upon the retirement of Jo Ann Emerson, Missouri Right to Life Federal Political Action Committee, researched and/or surveyed the candidates running on the Democrat and Republican tickets in the 8th Congressional District special election, to be held June 4th. One clear candidate stood out with a proven and consistent pro-life position and voting record (from the Missouri House.) That candidate is the MRL Federal PAC endorsed candidate, Jason Smith. He is the only candidate endorsed by MRL Federal PAC in the upcoming special election. All pro-lifers must get out and vote in the special election this Tuesday, June 4th. And, vote for the proven pro-life candidate, Jason Smith.

Let's Focus on Development -- Save the Date: 6/15
Missouri Right to Life, with the tireless efforts of many committed pro-life legislators (see last week's Lifeline) was able to bring about the passage of many life-saving pieces of legislation in the past legislative session. We are truly grateful to God for these victories on behalf of life. However, we cannot be complacent. We must do more to activate the pro-lifers across this state.

The statewide meeting for MRL leaders, members and anyone interested in the life issues in Missouri has a new theme. It is, "Let's Focus On Development To Save Lives!" The meeting will take place in Jefferson City on Saturday, June 15. Guest speaker for the day's event will be Don Parker, Director of Development at National Right to Life.   Save the date and plan on joining us for this important meeting. Please contact the state office at 573-635-5110 or righttolife@missourilife.org if you plan to attend.

Vatican to Host Special Commemoration for Evangelium Vitae
In 1995, Pope John Paul II issued a clear and ringing endorsement of the pro-life position in an encyclical that reaffirmed "the value and inviolability of human life." In Evangelium Vitae, or "The Gospel of Life," the Pope voiced an urgent call to commitment and action in defense of human life. The 194-page document was addressed first to Catholics, but also to "all people of good will," stressing its universal call for protection of the unborn and the elderly....read more.

Congress Sees Graphic Photos Documenting Abortion Horrors
During a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (HR 1797) held on Thursday, Rep. Trent Franks, R-AZ, displayed photos released by Operation Rescue depicting one aborted baby that was apparently killed after birth at a Houston, Texas, abortion clinic operated by Douglas Karpen...read more.

IPAB "Death Panels" Stuck as GOP Leaders Refuse to Name Members
The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) is a Medicare cost-cutting board of "experts" legally possessed of the autocratic power to impose its "advice"-even over a presidential veto. It does not currently have health care rationing powers, but as I have noted, powerful voices have called for granting it such death panel status...read more

Pat Buckley, who is lobbying for the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children at the 66th World Health Assembly this week in Geneva, reports on a forthright attack by the Holy See on a resolution before the Assembly which lists "emergency contraception" (the morning-after pill) as a "life-saving commodity"...read more.

Cloning Paper Rushed to Publication, Errors Found
The scientific community seems to me to be obsessed with cloning. Even with induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology making cloning embryos for stem cell harvesting look like taking the long way around, they still are pursuing somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) the scientific name for cloning...read more.

Paying for College By Selling Yourself (Or Your Eggs)
There is no doubt that higher education is costly. Textbooks alone can run $1,000 a semester for some undergraduates. Waiting tables and flipping burgers won't cover those costs. With many parents just as strapped for cash as their children, how does one pay for a college diploma?... read more.
