Missouri Right to Life Opposes Initiative to Place Clone and Kill in the State Constitution"Missouri Right to Life opposes the initiative petition filed on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 because it seeks to place the right to clone and kill in the state constitution. Proponents of the initiative seek to redefine cloning to make it more palatable to the public. They seek to redefine when life begins. Pro-life Missourians will not accept this deception," said Patty Skain, Executive Director of Missouri Right to Life. "From almost the beginning of this debate, proponents of cloning or somatic cell nuclear transfer have insisted that embryonic stem cell research was necessary to find much needed cures for a number of conditions and diseases. This is not the case. Sixty-five different conditions and diseases and thousands of individuals have been treated using adult stem cell therapies. Missouri Right to Life supports finding cures with adult stem cell research and therapies that does not require cloning and killing human embryos," said Patty Skain, Executive Director. We urge Missourians that support human life to decline to sign this petition that would if approved place clone and kill in our state constitution. And, we urge Missourians to just say NO to this initiative that would require clone and kill. Missouri Right to Life also urges our Missouri Legislature to pass a total ban on human cloning and send a message that Missouri is not a clone and kill state. |
