The following statement can be attributed to Pam Fichter, President of
Missouri Right to Life.
“Missouri Right to Life is profoundly disappointed at the passage
of Amendment 2. We knew from the beginning that this fight to prevent the
cloning and destruction of human life was an uphill battle.
The proponents of Amendment 2 waged a battle of deception, exploiting the
natural compassion of our citizens and outspending our coalition by a margin
of ten to one.
Nearly one million Missourians voted against constitutional protection for
cloning and destruction of human life. Many others voted for Amendment 2
based on deceptive ballot language that promised to ban human cloning, which
the majority of Missourians oppose.
Our work to promote the truth will continue.
In spite of this defeat, we are gratified by the efforts of so many of our
members and those who joined with us. We are energized and encouraged by
the monumental grassroots efforts of thousands of average Missourians who
worked for truth and the cause of life. In spite of this setback, we
are stronger, more unified, and more committed than ever to continue our
mission. We knew that no matter what happened on November 7, our work
would continue.
We draw strength from our accomplishments, inspiration from our unity, and
faith in the rightness of our cause.”
