It’s critical during this election year to let your representatives

hear your support for these important legislative priorities:

• Mandatory ultrasounds before abortions
• Informing a mother that a baby feels pain during an abortion
• Protect women from coerced abortions
• Prevent the creation of animal/human hybrid beings (Chimeras)
• Promote a complete ban on all human cloning in Missouri

NOTE:  Workshops for training to gather signatures for the upcoming 
Initiative Petition Campaign to ban all human cloning will be offered.
In addition, workshops explaining this year’s proposed legislation will be held.

Lobby Day Schedule:

1. Arrive at the Capitol as early as possible.  Please enter the Capitol on the south side, through the tunnel.
2. Once inside, come to the third floor rotunda.  Missouri Right to Life will be there all day with information, help and answers to questions.
3. Please sign in, pick up your packet of information and receive any updates. You may then spend the day talking with your legislators and key leadership in the House and Senate.
4. The House and Senate begin session at 10:00 a.m., possibly recess for lunch from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., and possibly go back into session at 2:00 p.m.  If you go to the office of your Senator or your Representative and are unable to see them, your legislator’s assistant may, in most instances, ask your legislator to come off the floor for you to talk to him/her.  This is done all the time.  You may want to set up an appointment with your legislator ahead of time.
5. There is a very small cafeteria at the west end of the Capitol in the basement, or you may bring a sack lunch.  There are also restaurants within walking distance.

• VERY IMPORTANT.  Your packets will have information sheets for you to complete after your meetings with your legislators.  Please leave a card with each legislator.  Then, fill out an information sheet for each legislator and return them to the pro-life information table before you leave.

Legislative Action Day

MRL Region and Chapter Action Plan

Please begin the following activities if you have not already done so:

1. Distribute enclosed flyers to churches in your area.
2. Do follow up phone calls to pastors to see if it’s been posted, announced, etc.
3. Find out the pro-life activist or coordinator for each church (during previous phone call.) Call them and ask them to organize a group from their church to come to the legislative day.
4. Run one of the following bulletin announcements (whichever is appropriate) in church bulletins 2-4 weeks prior to the legislative action day.

• On March 11, 2008, pro-lifers will gather at the state capitol to demonstrate their strong and steadfast commitment to the sanctity of human life.  During this outing, participants will: talk with legislators, attend workshops and be a witness for their pro-life convictions.  In addition, other activities, such as tours of the capitol, the state museum and the governor’s mansion are also available.  Please see the flyer attached to this bulletin or go to www.missourilife.org to learn more about the event.  Call on friends, relatives and other pro-life activists to join you in this important trip.
• On March 11, 2008,  ( church name ) will participate in a state-wide legislative action day in Jefferson City at the state capitol.  During this outing we will demonstrate our strong and steadfast commitment to the sanctity of human life by: talking to our legislators, attending workshops and being a witness for our pro-life convictions.  In addition other activities, such as tours of the capitol, the state museum and the governor’s mansion are also available. Please see the flyer attached to this bulletin or go to www.missourilife.org to learn more about the event.  We will meet at (time) and (place) to (bus or carpool) to Jefferson City.  Please call (name and number of the pro-life coordinator or activist for the church or parish) to sign up for this important trip.    

5. Make copies or call state office to send more flyers if needed. Take flyers to any businesses
that will accept them. This will probably be more successful in the smaller towns and rural  areas.

6. Use flyer as an ad in your local paper. Add information to the ad on local transportation, i.e.
    meeting place for car pools, buses, etc. and a local contact number.

7. Make phone calls to pro-life activists in your area and ask them to participate in the legislative
    action day. (A list can be mailed or emailed from the state office with phone numbers.) In
    addition to participation in the critical legislative day, this is also a great opportunity to
    acquire new members for MRL and your local chapter. See a sample script below:

Hello John, this is (your name). How are you doing? (Add personal info here if you know the individual.) I'm calling about a pro-life event that's coming up in March. We are trying to get a group of people from here in (your town or county) to go to Jefferson City on March 11th for a pro-life legislative action day. We are going to be talking to our legislators about some pro-life legislation that we want them to pass. (See the flyer for more info on the legislation.) We will also be discussing with them the cloning and embryonic stem cell research issue and how distressed we are that we are the only state in the union that has a right to clone and kill human embryos in our state constitution.
