MISSOURI RIGHT TO LIFE APPLAUDS HOUSE FOR PASSAGE OF BAN ON WEB-CAM ABORTION LEGISLATION; CALLS ON SENATE TO ACT

For Immediate Release:  April 18, 2013

The following statement can be attributed to MRL President, Pam Fichter:

Missouri Right to Life applauds those in the Missouri House of Representatives who voted for HB 400.  The bill passed the House with a bipartisan, veto-proof majority of 115 to 39.  This legislation will ban web-cam abortions in the state of Missouri and ensure that women will meet with a doctor in person in the same room to begin an RU 486 abortion.  This legislation protects women from the abortion industry which is seeking to profit from RU 486 abortions by providing sub-standard care to women.

Similar legislation has passed in eight other states.  When web-cam abortions began in Iowa, the number of abortion clinics increased from 5 to 17.  We do not want this happening in Missouri.  We call on the Senate to take up and pass this life-saving legislation.

We thank Representative Jeanie Riddle and Senator Wayne Wallingford for sponsoring this important legislation.  And we thank the 114 co-sponsors in the House.

With such strong support for this bill in the House and with a veto-proof majority of 24 anti-abortion Senators, we look forward to action in the Senate to ban web-cam abortions.  We hope the Senate does not allow a pro-abortion minority to kill legislation that will protect women and save babies.
